The largest trial court in the United States, the Los Angeles Superior Court, was forced to close its doors on Monday, July 22nd, due to a crippling ransomware attack. The attack, which began early Friday morning, compromised the court's entire network, impacting everything from the MyJuryDuty Portal to critical case management systems.

To contain the damage and protect sensitive data, the court made the difficult decision to shut down all network systems. While the attack has yet to be claimed by a specific ransomware group, officials have confirmed it’s unrelated to the recent global outage caused by a faulty CrowdStrike update.

Despite the closure, the court remains optimistic about a swift recovery. They have assembled a team of experts dedicated to restoring systems as quickly and safely as possible. While the exact timeline is uncertain, the court anticipates reopening on Tuesday, July 23rd.

This isn't the first time the Los Angeles Superior Court has fallen victim to cybercrime. In 2017, a Texas man was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for hacking the court's systems and stealing employee credentials. This incident highlights the increasing threat of cyberattacks on government agencies and the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures.

The closure of the Los Angeles Superior Court will undoubtedly cause significant disruptions for countless individuals and businesses. From delayed court proceedings to hindered access to public records, the effects of this attack will be felt throughout the community. The backlog of cases will put immense pressure on the court system, and the loss of public records could have far-reaching consequences.

This attack is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities of even the most critical institutions to cyber threats.
